From The Power of Expectation
The Expectation Index
How ready are you for what you are expecting? Score yourself on the eleven elements and find out which ditches to dig first.
Why ditches?
Three armies were stranded in a dry valley. The prophet told them to make the valley full of ditches before there was any sign of rain. By morning the water came, and it filled exactly what they had dug (2 Kings 3:16–20).
Research agrees with the valley: daydreaming about a good outcome tends to lower effort, while an expectation tied to concrete plans and if-then decisions raises follow-through. The Index is a reflection tool built on the book's eleven elements, not a psychological test.
For churches and teams: send the link to your small group, then talk through each person's two weakest elements together.
